— About
Infierno 33 is dedicated to and developed together with saxophonist Defne Signoret. In certain sections the saxophone is met with real-time live electronics spatialized across an Ambisonics system, the result of close work between performer and composer rather than a fixed electronic part imposed on the instrument.
The piece draws on Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, specifically its Inferno, focusing on the numerical structures embedded in Dante's text and translating them into the piece's formal and temporal organization. Infierno 33 premiered as part of "La Fabrique de Dante 3," the third and final concert accompanying the exhibition La Fabrique de Dante at the Fondation Bodmer.
